| The proprietor of ArtNetherlands.com, Ian Rees, currently resides in the desert state of Arizona, in the Southwest United States.
Having travelled to the Netherlands on numerous occasions, Ian has long had an interest in the art, architecture, and culture of the Netherlands- even though he has nary a drop of Dutch blood with his veins. During his last trip to the Netherlands in the early months of 2007, he was very very surprised to discover that the website “artnetherlands.com” was still available for purchase. Thinking that he, Ian Rees, could create and maintain a better website than, say, a commercially-oriented firm would- without annoying (flashing or trembling) banners, he jumped at the opportunity to do so.
This is a project in progress. This site’s stated purpose is to help introduce the English-speaking world to the art and culture of the Netherlands. Ian is well aware that the Dutch themselves prefer their websites composed in Dutch, and have a preference for their beloved “puntanel” (.nl), as opposed to America’s “.com” (he was reminded of this fact repeatedly during his last visit to the low countries). In the not too distant future, Ian DOES intend to translate the website into Dutch and create a mirror .nl site.
Please note that Ian has created this website from the ground up, by himself. As a result of his lack of total complete knowledge in the fields of computer and graphic design, you may see some elements within the website that are… a little lacking in quality. The black and white graphite drawings currently in the art gallery section were created by him. Reproductions of Dutch Golden Age art are provided courtesy of ARC – the Art Renewal Center, with permission. The images themselves are linked to ARC. The photographs throughout the website created by, and are the property of, Ian Rees.
Ian is currently looking for artists, photographers, historians, and more- people that would be willing to assist him in this project (he intends for the site to grow many times its former size). If you have anything you would like to contribute (photos, artwork, essays, thoughts, links etc.), please don’t hesitate to get into contact with him. Please be sure, however, that the contributions are Netherlands-related.
